“Classics”
Winter // 2017
Welcome to “Classics!” This is our last issue of “Let’s Go to the Movies” and CRAFT’s last issue of 2017. Prepare
for wall-to-wall warm hugs of classic pairings, comfort foods, classic cocktails, and do-gooders.
Inside, you’ll find, satisfying vegan dishes with Latin influence from Shannon Martinez, Sweet treats, beer and
cookie pairings that will make Santa stay a piece longer than he should, savory pie, holiday gift guides, and
Sundaes for days. Nicole Cassese speaks to Jenny Dirksen and Allison deBrauwere of No Kid Hungry, an orga-
nization that strives to fill the belly of every child in need. In addition to our partnership with Farm Aid, we’ve
committed to working with No Kid Hungry throughout the year, so you’ll have many opportunities to learn more
and to donate to this worthwhile cause. Erin Jimcosky explores the ancestral corn of Oaxaca and the effort to
preserve it, and Matt Williamson talks pedals and wicked collabs with KHDK Electronics’ Kirk Hammett (Yes,
that Kirk Hammett!) and David Karon. There’s a lot to take in, but you’ve got plenty of time. Winter hasn’t even
begun.
Before we say goodbye to 2017, I’d like to take a moment to thank all of our guest contributors, contributors,
columnists, and staff—our itty bitty teeny tiny staff of magicians—that have worked so hard to keep the cogs
turning and you folks filled up to your indie-loving eyeballs. CRAFT doesn’t happen without each and everyone
one of them and I can never thank them all enough. I’d also like to thank Jim Zimmer, Colin Healey, Adam For-
man, and Keith Shore, the four unbelievably talented artists who created our “Let’s Go to the Movies” covers
this year. Each artist is as kind and generous as they are talented and it’s been an honor to have their interpre-
tation of our themes grace our covers. And finally, you, reader, thank you for reading CRAFT and for sharing
us with others. Without you, there’s no need for the rest of us, so please keep reading, sharing, and repeating.
Now, I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am ready to shake off the stink of this wacky year and immerse
myself in holiday cheer and comfortable classics. I am going to OD on hot toddies, warm fires, slow-braises,
good friends, and screenings of It’s a Wonderful Life, The Shop Around the Corner, Miracle on 34th Street (the
original, of course), Bridget Jones’ Diary, and maybe even some Die Hard.
Wishing you and yours a happy and healthy holiday season,
CoRI
