in our minds. Preliminary plans are already in place to build a version of our dream brewery from the ground up on the agricultural land that we’ll be leasing from the Port but, until we break ground, we also continue to look for the perfect, idyllic 100-year-old barn, with access to munici- pal water and sewer, and appropriate zoning for our needs. We may or may not ever find such a place and, even if we do, there may be addi- tional factors that limit our ability to act upon it. Depending on how things progress we may even decide, by the time such an opportunity does present itself, that it’s no longer the right one for our project. Part of me has already come to embrace our current setup in ways that I never thought I would, and I can’t wholly rule out the idea that, as it grows and takes on a life of its own, Am- ber and I and everyone else involved may come to embrace it even more. At the same time, I think ahead to internet forum comments about how Garden Path Fermentation is a far cry from the rustic farm brewery we promised, which, in spite of my usual instinct to dismiss such inter- net snark, there’s a certain extent to which they resonate. The beginning of our journey may be nearing its end but we’ve only just reached the territory that we came to explore. Though they will not always be pleasant or easy, we look forward to making the many choices that we will have to make on the many paths that lie ahead. “‘This is my way; where is yours?’ —thus I answered those who asked me ‘the way.’ For the way—that does not exist.” - Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra This quote was among those that Ron chose in 1992 to appear alongside his photo in that year’s edition of the Princeton University Nassau Herald. Little did he know then where life’s path would someday take him.
