Holiday Box O’ Spoons • $54 Girl Meets Dirt On an island in Washington State’s San Juan archipelago, sits a little 5-acre farm where the magic of Girl Meets Dirt happens. After ditching NYC in favor of returning to the PNW, Audra began to bake and preserve with the food growing around her. She blogged about her experiences and eventually parlayed them into a thriving preserves company. What sets them apart is that they don’t have a normal sourcing chain, it is all very fly by the seat of their pants. She sources fruit from throughout the San Juans, working with small family farmers, some with heritage orchards. In some cases, they actually step in to take care and harvest the fruit. Each jar is filled with fruit in its prime, grown in the fresh marine air, capturing the essence of the season as well as the terroir of the islands. These spoon preserves use whole fruit instead of purees and are cooked with lemon, organic sugar, and herbs from kitchen garden.
