S
pencer Trappist
Ale, made by
the first official
Trappist brewery outside
Europe, is available for
sale in Massachusetts.
The town of Spencer, in
central Massachusetts,
isn’t well known for ...
well, anything, really.
But it’s about to become
internationally famous
at least in beer-drinking
circles.
For a beer to be
classified as Trappist, it
must be brewed within
the walls of a Trappist
monastery under the
control and responsibility
of the community of
monks, and whose
revenue is devoted to
social service.
