Find Your Praying Personality

by Janet Holm McHenry
When I began prayerwalking more than two decades ago , I experienced dramatic changes in my life physically , emotionally and spiritually . I not only lost weight but also found a release from depression and fear .
Because I also began to see answers to prayer throughout my small town in the Sierra Valley in northern California , I began another walk : a journey of more than twenty years of reading through the Bible each year on a quest to understand prayer better .
Eventually prayerwalking taught me that there ’ s a need for prayer and that I can have a prayerwalking or intercessory mindset wherever I am — in the classroom , in the grocery checkout line and in my home with all the crazies running around .
After I wrote the book PrayerWalk in 2001 , speaking opportunities gave me the chance to share my prayerwalking passion with others . But invariably someone would come up to me afterwards and say , “ Janet , I can ’ t walk . What should I do ?”
Though I would try to share how we can have a praying-without-ceasing mindset if we open up our eyes to the needs around us , that recurrent question always stuck with me . Then one day a couple years ago , I was speaking to a group of writers about dozens of ways we can integrate more prayer into our daily lives when I heard myself say , “ Perhaps it has something to do with our God-given personality .” continued on page 44 >>
