formation of galaxies, the slow expansion driven by dark energy, the light that reaches us from nearly the beginning of time— but we will never fathom the whole of what God has done from beginning to end. This limit is not cruelty, but mercy. It guards us against pride and endless striving to master all the mysteries of life, freeing us to rest in what is given rather than grasping for the kind of control we were never meant to have.
That restlessness we feel is not ultimately about craving more pleasure, achievement or knowledge. It is a Godplanted longing— for Him, for love, for connection with the divine. Our hearts are restless until they find their Creator. In the gospel, we find our Anchor. Jesus entered our endless cycles of birth and death. He bore, like us, the burden of hebel, only to rise to redeem it. He offers us an eternity where there is no futility— time no longer erases, justice prevails and every deed is brought into the light. Until that day, we need to fear God and keep His commandments— this is our whole duty— and to receive each of the simple, beautiful gifts of life“ in its time” with open hands and grateful hearts. Dr. Sarah Salviander is a writer and university physics lecturer who is passionate about the intersection of science and Christianity. She was raised atheist in a secular country but came to believe in God when her research in astrophysics convinced her that the universe is rather too orderly and elegant to be an accident. She later converted to Christianity after she studied the Bible and concluded that it is the true Word of God.
Take Time to Give Thanks
Take a few quiet minutes to reflect on anything in life that feels repetitive, fleeting or“ vapor like”— toil without lasting satisfaction or a longing that temporal things can’ t fill. Write how Ecclesiastes 3:11 resonates: eternity in your heart points beyond the temporary. Thank God specifically for the beauty He places“ in its time”( a relationship, small joy or moment of awe), even amid limits. Then, note one way this week to embrace contentment and fear-of- God wisdom— perhaps savoring a simple gift, releasing a grasp for control or redirecting restlessness toward Him in prayer.
These verses invite us to receive God’ s wisdom, embrace contentment, abide in Christ the true Vine and anchor our hope in the living promise of resurrection. As you pray through them, ask the Lord to help you see every fleeting moment as beautiful in its time and to calm your restless heart fully in Him.
