The Science Behind the Shield: How Research Powers the Radon and Indoor Air Quality Mission
By National Radon Defense
At National Radon Defense, we’ ve built a network, a mission, and a movement around one powerful idea: science saves lives. Every radon test we conduct, every mitigation system we install, and every air quality product we recommend is backed by years, sometimes decades, of scientific research and environmental study.
This is the true impact of science. And it’ s the invisible engine driving our work every day. The Hidden Risk Beneath Our Homes
Radon gas is invisible, odorless, and deadly. It ' s naturally produced by the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock, seeping into homes through foundations and crawlspaces. For decades, it was largely unknown to the public, even underestimated by professionals. But research changed that.
It was through epidemiological studies, environmental monitoring, and long‐term health research that radon’ s dangers came to light. The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency( EPA), in coordination with global health organizations, classified radon as the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U. S., responsible for an estimated 21,000 deaths each year.
