“What can I do about it, I’m just one person,” is the response of so many people when presented with problematic situations such as the environment, climate change, inequality of education and health care, and social injustice.
First realizing that our purpose is to protect Earth and all of its occupants is essential. Second, becoming educated on what is transpiring in our surrounds with our air, water, and land. So education and action is the answer.
The recommended reading section of our magazine provides some excellent books and documents to help with the education that will help increase one’s effectiveness and influence. Involvement with communities and sharing one’s education and experiences increases effectiveness and influence. Communities include all media mediums, civic and other organizations, health departments, schools, hospitals, and churches. Getting out of one’s comfort zone can be rewarding and productive in making a difference in our common home and its occupants.
November is lung cancer awareness month and time to begin an education on myths about radon and lung cancer. Please read this article by Michael Bellamy, PhD, a medical physicist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
