On March 5th Deb Violette, President and Founder of Free ME from Lung Cancer spent a couple hours with Senator Collins and Maria Olson, her health aide. Deb was there representing One Voice Against Cancer.
"We talked about access to care and a major barrier to care here in Maine - transportation. We talked about increasing NCI and NIH funding, DOD funding for lung cancer research, the work Free ME from Lung Cancer is doing to provide access to early lung cancer screening, research and radon abatement systems.
I am happy to have Senator Collins on our side on all initiatives. Senator Collins has and continues to champion the causes near to my heart, her state and the country.
Thank you Senator Collins for doing the work on these important initiatives. Without your support we could not do the work we are doing to help our community and researchers here in Maine and across the country. "
Deb spent the day with Brandon Leonard, Senior Director of Government Affairs a colleague at LUNGevity Foundation visiting Congressional leaders in One Voice Against Cancer (OVAC). OVAC is a coalition of over 50 public interest groups representing millions of cancer researchers, physicians and nurses, patients, caregivers, survivors and their families who refocused on long-term, sustained funding for cancer research and prevention at the federal level.
