CR3 News Magazine 2021 VOL 1: JANUARY -- NATIONAL RADON ACTION MONTH | Page 8

Reflections

Looking back on 2020, much has changed. We have zoomed until our eyes have crossed, but we haven’t given up on focusing on our message and mission of saving lives with radon awareness and reduction. First, we want to thank all of our friends, sponsors and supporters in the radon industry and lung cancer advocates for their generous donations—especially American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists and National Radon Safety Board. The work they do is a life saving effort and we appreciate it. Also thanks to our other supporters that include home inspectors, our friends and relatives, and other lung cancer organizations –especially those making up Lung Cancer Action Network- for giving us encouragement and support. Agencies such as Environmental Protection Agency, Center for Disease Control, Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors, American Lung Association, American Society of Home Inspectors, Housing and Urban Development, Environmental Law Institute, Health and Human Services, and all the state radon program directors are our colleagues in this crusade to save lives as members of the National Radon Action Plan.

Last but certainly not least, I would like to acknowledge, congratulate, and express my appreciation for Jacquelyn Nixon, the publisher of our magazine. Jackie, has never, never stopped educating people and spreading the message of the danger of radioactive radon gas exposure. Jackie begins her fifth year of CR3 Radon News with this issue. She has rallied the lung cancer community in Pennsylvania into a great movement of radon awareness. Jackie was determined to make a difference when she was diagnosed with lung cancer. Being a never smoker, she sought out what was the likely cause of this demon in her body. Using her money, she got condominium owners in her complex to test for radon which resulted in mitigation of her building. She has spoken at numerous events, hosted booths, visited legislators and during this pandemic participated in hundreds of conference calls and zoom meetings.

Jackie created the Pennsylvania Radon Calendar using the drawings from the children who were winners of the PA radon poster contest and also created a National Radon Calendar using the national winners’ drawings. The National Radon Calendar can be purchased at https://www.yearbox.com/calendarsforgood/cr3-2021-calendar/

Jackie is an inspiration to all of us! When some of us thought nothing could be done during this pandemic, Jackie proved us wrong. We at Citizens for Radioactive Radon Reduction say thank you for your tireless advocacy and action to make a difference and save lives.
