Cancer researchers at the University of Calgary are asking Canadians to measure how much time they are spending at home before, during and eventually after the pandemic to see whether their exposure to radon — the second leading cause of lung cancer in Canada — has increased.
The survey is limited to participants in an ongoing national Evict Radon study, led by the University of Calgary in partnership with Health Canada.
Unfortunately, its effects are undetectable until that mo1nent that uncontrolled da111age is done.
Also NRC.gov noted that Radon along with Thoran become the biggest source of radiation exposure in the United States (source: NCRP Report No 160 year 2009)
So what's the best way to deal with it? It's a fact you can never entirely get rid of radon in your home due to its pen11eating nature. However, interventions can be undertaken to ensure your hon1e is within a relatively safe range.
And this is where the radon sensor or radon gas test kit beco111e handy. But then question abounds is how to detennine the best radon detector.
What Is a Radon Gas Detector For?
Radon is generated fro111 the breakdown of a chen1ical element na111ed Uranium. Usually radon gas enters your hon1e through a sn1all crack in the foundation of your ho111e and by the tin1e it can trap and become concentrated until at the end it escapes to the air and inhaled by you or your fan1ily.
The problen1 is this active radon gas is odorless, colorless which n1eans you may not notice if your house contains some certain amount of levels of radon gas.
This is where radon tester becon1e essential, it can help you to measure the high radon level on your house so you can n1ake sure it still under the li1nit. In United States 2 pCi/L is a level that considers as the limit where you should start take an action.

RADON
It's meant to raise awareness about the presence of the naturally occurring radio-active gas, measure it and teach people how to mitigate high levels.
But because people can still sign up for the Evict Radon study, they would then be eligible to participate in the current pandemic-related survey.
So far, nearly 20,000 online surveys have been delivered, mostly in Alberta.
