THE POWER OF THE 3 C’s

Communication, Connection,

Caring

By sharing our experiences with

lung cancer and especially

the little known cause of lung

cancer, radioactive radon gas

exposure, lives can be changed

and saved. With the vehicles of communication such as face book, twitter, websites, email, our own mouths, and our electronic radon magazine, CR3 News; the outreach to the country and world are as easy as a few keystrokes. The lung cancer community as well as the radon community is filled with caring and concerned individuals who connect and communicate with others about their lives, circumstances and activities. We at Citizens for Radioactive Radon Reduction (CR3) have been fortunate enough to connect with some of those caring individuals recently as we spotted the face book post video of Matt Ellefson, lung cancer survivor, advocate, and CEO and Founder of SIRVIVEit, on the danger of radon. Matt and another caring individual, Crystal Lytle of Reliant Radon, were shading light on the leading cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers of which millions of people are unaware.

Stephanie Peace, mother of three young children, high school teacher, and Stage IV lung cancer survivor, commented on Matt’s face book post that she was in the process of testing her home for radon in Cape Corel, Florida, and discovered the presence of radon in elevated levels in her home of 10 years. She was hoping to get reimbursement for the cost of her professional testing and was having difficulty engaging a radon professional to install a mitigation system. When I noticed Stephanie’s dilemma, we connected and I told her CR3 could assist her. The Florida Department of Health website and the National Radon Proficiency Program give listings of qualified radon professional mitigators

and their contact information. Very

easily I found Gary Mighell, with Mighell Development, LLC in Naples on each list,

contacted him, and shared Stephanie’s story.

Gary graciously offered to donate his time and talent for Stephanie and her family to install the radon mitigation system. When Jan Fisher, National Sales Manager of Radon

Supplies, our CR3

New Jersey

representative

heard of our

joint effort,

without

hesitation,

she rapidly

sent the

radon fan

and necessary

materials to Gary

and also contacted

Billy McFadden of

Airthings who

then leaped

into action to

send Stephanie

an Airthings

radon monitor

to measure the radon level after mitigation.

In less than one month, across thousands of miles, numerous caring individuals came together to add to Stephanie’s peace of mind and reduce her anxiety level. Our sincere thanks go to Matt Ellefson, Crystal Lytle, Jorge Laguna, Gary Mighell, Jan Fisher, Jessica Petschauer, Bill McFadden and Jackie Nixon.
