UPPER SCHOOL / TICE

Helping students discover their Unique Design + Divine Purpose

The Institute for Cultural Engagement ( TICE ) at CPA Upper School offers students at CPA the opportunity to discover the intersection of their unique design and divine purpose in order to make a meaningful contribution to the public good . TICE is an innovative and immersive program unique to CPA that allows upper school students to :

■ Pursue a personalized course of study in experiential learning
■ Collaborate and work with industry leaders and professionals
■ Complete an internship
■ Design and execute a Capstone Project “ In a way , we have reimagined what is possible at school , and what upper school curricula , student experience , and cultural engagement can open up for students . Through TICE , we ask them essential developmental questions- ‘ What are you curious about ? Who are you becoming in His story ? and , How are you contributing to the world and the community ?’” says Director ( TICE ) Maria Jernigan .
This year , CPA upper school students heard from over 80 guest speakers visiting campus through TICE , sharing their stories - not just their work today , but their journey towards purpose . Dozens of professionals in a diverse range of industries engaged with students via the “ Foundry ” series , where students were invited to workshops , panels , luncheons , and field trips , to come and be curious . The “ Sojourn ” series , sparking passion and purpose , hosted four main assemblies ( all US students ) and luncheons ( intimate Q & A with TICE members ) for students :
■ Matt McEvoy , MD , Anesthesiology , Vanderbilt University Medical Center , on the importance of curiosity in finding your passion & purpose
■ Jeremy Cowart , professional photographer / creative , on discovering purpose and the intersection of creativity & empathy
■ Wes Yoder & Cyntoia Brown Long , author / speaker on criminal justice reform , surviving human trafficking , and how to use your passion & purpose to bring cultural redemption & restoration
■ Scott Harrison , CEO of Charity Water on how a single individual is enough for hope to exist
Students heard the winding and often unconventional paths taken towards passion-filled careers .
The program houses five centers for cultural engagement : The Center for Law & Advocacy , The Center for Production & Performance , The Center for Business & Entrepreneurship , The Center for Inquiry & Design , and The Center for Visual Media & Publication .
In its second full year of implementation , the coalescing of curricular models , membership requirements for each of the five centers , internship networks , guest speaking engagements , and strategic industry partnerships has created a rigorous track for graduating TICE members in The Class of 2024 to receive key endorsements for their chosen field of study . And as students chart their courses beyond CPA with a greater sense of purpose , fueled by insight into their own unique giftings- transformation through education takes place through the institute .
Dr . Matt McEvoy , a leading medical practitioner and teacher in his field , encouraged students to think outside the perceived parameters for what a successful career might look like , referencing burnout and disenchantment in the modern workforce . He urged students to find what excites them , then work towards meaning in that space .
