Life Since CPA
With this being my twentieth year since graduation , I have certainly covered some ground since leaving CPA . I studied history and economics at The University of Tennessee , Knoxville . From there , I worked in New York doing marketing and public relations with a focus on clients in the design industry . After a couple of years , I decided it was time for me to nurture my own design gifting , so I returned to UTK to obtain a Master of Architecture . Since then , I ’ ve been back in Nashville working at Hastings Architecture and designing buildings that impact the public realm . Some notable projects include an addition to the Ryman Auditorium , the Bellevue Library ( across from where CPA played football back in the early days ), and the recently completed Soli Deo Center on CPA ’ s campus .
How did CPA prepare you for your current pursuits ?
My time at CPA fostered in me a belief that who I am and what I do truly matter , and that anything is possible with God .
Are there any specific people at CPA you feel shaped your personal growth ?
Working on the yearbook and in her English class , Deanne Carrol taught me the importance of maintaining a high standard of excellence in all my pursuits . Bill Delvaux instilled in me the importance of grit and perseverance during my time running cross country and track .
Any words of advice for young people at CPA heading out into the world ?
Pursue your passions with as much dedication and vigor as you pursue the Lord , and you can ’ t lose .
How do you seek to influence today ’ s world ?
I firmly believe that the built environment ( where we live , work , learn and play ) has a direct impact on our broader culture , and I feel truly honored to be in an industry and position that has such a connection to this critical dialogue .
How does your faith impact how you live and work ?
My faith is absolutely a through-line for my personal and professional life . My friends , colleagues , and clients represent a broad spectrum of beliefs , which creates rich opportunities for sharing God ’ s love with people of all backgrounds .
