A healthy body image is key to freedom in expression , and it starts in lower school . Instructors connect with each individual , helping them find a voice and see the unique and wonderful design of body , mind , and spirit . This combats cultural currents ripe with critique and unhealthy standards in the performing arts and society at large — especially for women . where you have days and weeks to prepare a final product that you view alongside your audience . It is a live embodiment of expression , and no two performances are alike . Learning how to thrive in that place of pressure and nerves , while avoiding perfectionism , is key ,” explains Carolyne .
“ We are very intentional to set the tone for rehearsals with prayer , positive cheer one another on , upper schoolers pouring into lower schoolers , “ big sister / little sister ” partnerships each week , Bible studies , and team bonding . “ Before DanceFest , one of our eighth graders sent an email to everyone just lavishing encouragement and Scripture over us . The spiritual maturity in those moments just blows me away . You can get formal dance training anywhere , but CPA Dance is striving for technical excellence as well as spiritual growth , so that these students go forth and mentor other young people in their walks of faith ,” says Paige .
As the program continues to develop , students are able to enjoy a state-of-the-art performance space in the Soli Deo Center , as well as three dedicated studio spaces across campus . Joining with intracurricular dance classes , the dance companies build on a wider appreciation and desire for high-quality dance at CPA Arts .
“ With my students , through all the energy and excitement , we talk about how God gifted us each with healthy and strong bodies . So much of dance has to do with strength and focus , so starting at a young age , we want to nurture all those wiggles and giggles into purpose and power for strong , confident young adults ,” says Director of LS Dance Company Kenzie Haynes .
“ Dance is not like any other art form , affirmations , encouraging one another , and focusing on our bodies as vessels to tell a bigger story ,” says Director of MS Dance Company Paige Sottek . Paige began weekly time for reflection called “ Worship Wednesdays ,” where students can leave the stress of their days behind and unwind with free movement to worship music .
Paige remarks that the program has seen a prolific rise in spiritual leadership with students eager to pray for one another ,
