The CHOC Cows
How the Cows have helped CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA
CHOC provides emotional support to children as well as their families during their Cancer journey through the help of social workers and volunteers . The Cow funding helps to pay for the social workers salaries
CHOC provides accommodation close to treatment centres and hospitals for the children and their families Over the years the Cows have raised funds to help build , buy and refurbish these houses as well as upgrading the paediatric oncology wards at Chris Hani and Charlotte Maxeke hospitals .
CHOC has a number of programs including awareness campaigns which ensure that communities are told about Cancer in Children with a massive emphasis on the early warning signs . The Cows funding helps towards these campaigns .
CHOC provides transport which helps to ensure that the children can get to and from the hospitals thus ensuring they don ' t miss any treatments . The Cows funding has helped with the purchase of vehicles as well as the trasnport costs that some families incur .
The Cow herd started in 2008 with 8 Cows who decided to ride for a purpose in memory of Jessica Bain whilst raising funds ( 230k to be exact ) for CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA . 13 years later we have a herd of over 3000 Cows and have raised over R44million for this AMOOZING cause !
