MODERN FASHION The woman of the 21 st century is, in fact, a stronger figure, totally aware of her possibilities. The woman of the 21 st century (be it Muslim, Christian or atheist) is, in fact, a stronger figure, totally aware of her possibilities. No need for her to exhibit nudities to draw attention on herself, but her affirmation in the society is nowadays built around a different presentation of femininity. Hence, Modest Fashion, for contemporary women, can be viewed as an expression of power, rather than a matter of constraint. Finally freed from the old stereotype of limitation and social closure, Modest Fashion is now proposing a new female aesthetics, verging, conversely, on the idea of “power dressing”: modest garments seem to annul the pre-existing gender gap between male and female, leading women to a role of equal opportunities than men. And this may be a reason why Modesty is so highly appreciated these days. Furthermore, as an Image Consultant and Designer, always moving from Italy to Middle-Eastern Countries, I cannot do without considering the uniqueness of certain outfits and they way they add a touch of glam and sensuality to the ladies wearing modestly. Abayas and hijabs today come in an array of colors and patterns, expressions of a fashion which is becoming more and more eclectic, able to match original Islamic garments and vibrant tints with stylish accessories and Western clothing. Also veils, turbans and headpieces in general represent a “must have” to show according to the occasion and, possibly, in a perfect combo of colors and skin complexion… but maybe it would be worth talking about this more widely another time. 11 COVERED | MAR 20 Alberta Ferretti Fall 2019 Ready-to-Wear Fashion Show Collection
