“ Modest today, especially in the western
society, has acquired another important
value, specifically related to the concept
of female emancipation
”
From YouTube videos (digital – as a matter of fact – is pushing the market exponentially)
to high-street collections and designer catwalks, Modest Fashion is really everywhere.
More and more Italian designers (from Dolce & Gabbana, to Alberta Ferretti and Max
Mara, to mention a few) have recently launched their “pret-à-cover” collections as a hymn
to the latest Islamic trends.
Far from being considered a mere conservative way of dressing, the term “Modesty” can
now be interpreted a number of different ways. Typically, it is used to indicate garments
that conceal rather than accentuate the silhouette: hijabs and burqas, as well as tops,
trousers, jackets and dresses, they all feature a modest cut. But are we sure it is only
about this?
Not at all! Although the decision to wear this type of clothing can be due to religious
or cultural reasons, being “Modest” today, especially in the Western society, has acquired
another important value, specifically related to the concept of “female emancipation”.
