THE DESIGN BRIEF
BACKGROUND & OVERVIEW
Green Acres Golf Club has been active in improving the course playability over the last 20 or so years. This has been evident with
numerous course improvements over this period. Most holes have had new greens built with Bentgrass as the predominant grass,
holes have been marginally lengthened where possible, fairways have been turfed with legend couch and improved bunkering and
fairway mounding have all contributed to the quality layout we enjoy today.
The existing Board, Course Sub-Committee and Course Superintendent have all supported an initiative to undertake the
development of a Course Master Plan by engaging an external organisation to partner us with this project.
We believe the time is right to undertake such a project and we have identified two fundamental objectives;
+ To present the course in the best possible playing condition for Club Members given the natural environment we have in Kew
including the seasons we experience.
+ To act as a reference for future committees to ensure a consistent and structured approach is taken on course matters and
eliminate inconsistent or ad hoc decisions.
We would like our project partners, Crafter & Mogford, to consider the following when preparing their report for Green Acres Golf
Club;
+ To review and recommend where you consider change will result in an improved golf course consistent with our objective of
being recognised as a great member’s course.
+ Given our restrictions of limited space and a tight layout we have an expectation that your focus will be on improvement and
general upgrading rather than major change.
+ Improve our ability to attract and retain members including juniors and we include here a reference to improving our chipping/
pitching area.
+ Provide an enjoyable golf experience for members for as many weeks in each year that is possible within our environment.
+ Allow both the committee and membership to review your thoughts on each hole as it is now and how you would improve the
playability if so recommended.
+ Have a plan that is easy for future Boards to follow.
As previously advised the scope of your engagement does not require your firm to comment on the Turf or Cutting Policy. This will
remain the responsibility of the Course Superintendent in conjunction with the Course Sub-Committee.
We look forward to working with you on this project please do not hesitate to contact us.
Yours sincerely
