HOLE 18 Existing Par 4 330m Proposed Par 4 330m EXISTI NG HOLE DESCRIPTION The final hole at Green Acres is a short to medium length par 4 playing to the south. The one single tee is set above the fairway level and play is over a broad valley to a rising fairway. The carry is marked by native tussock plantings, like at the previous hole. A maintenance track that runs between the right trees and the fairway edge is an unfortunate visual distraction. This fairway does not so much dogleg as gradually bend towards the green, and has a general slope from left to right. The green is set into the side of the slope and is protected by one left side bunker short of the green, a more central front bunker and another at front right, leaving a fairly narrow opening to be accessed by running approach shots. The backdrop behind the green is not that attractive, with bushes in the foreground and a house beyond. A decent finishing hole that has potential for improvement. STRENGTHS + Attractive hole corridor + Interesting use of native tussocks in the carry. WEAKNESSES + + + + + + Single tee out of character with multiple tees on other holes. Visible maintenance path between right trees and right edge of fairway. Thick bushes in various locations right next to the fairway, both left and right sides. Right hand pair of bunkers set back from green edge. Traffic area left of green has difficult slopes and mounds. Unattractive bush screening behind green, lacking trees for height screening of house beyond. O PPO RTU N ITI E S & R E C O M M E N DATI O N S + Split single tee ground into two, lowering the front tee by 300mm. Yellow and ladies markers to sit on this lower tee. + Reduce extent of left side garden bed in front of tee. Replace with turfgrass. + Construct fairway bunker to left side of fairway approximately 215 -220 metres from rear tee. At this distance many golfers will need to consider whether it is best to lay up or take on this bunker. + Remove leaning Melaleuca tree adjacent maintenance track. + Remodel entire green complex. Remodel short left bunker to cut across the line of play and extend further back towards the approaching golfer. At the green regrade environs to reduce steepness of transition from path back to green level. Right side bunkers to be positioned tight to green edge to increase challenge on the final hole. + Review planting to rear of green. Add supplementary planting to add interest and also screen lower views to practice nets and hut. TH R EATS + No apparent threats. PAG E 5 3 18
