HOLE 17 Existing Par 3 180m Proposed Par 3 180m EXISTING HOLE DESCRIPTION The penultimate hole is a long par 3 playing to the north-east. The tees are set in a constrained location with trees either side and are framed by mounding, unlike the majority of tees on the course. Beyond the forward tee there is an area of low ground that has been planted out with isolated groups of native tussocks, while the bank at the right is vegetated densely with these same tussocks. From here the ground rises up to a perched green which is protected by a large bunker along the left side, while a prominent mound at the right rear of the green appears out of place. Further fussy contouring lies between the right side of the green and the path to the next tee. A strong par 3 hole that can be further improved. STRENGTHS + Attractive and testing hole. + Interesting use of native tussocks in the carry. WEAKNESSES + + + + + Tee complex with its mounding feels out of place. Tussock copses in carry are quite isolated and could be strengthened. Dead lopped-back tree unattractive behind the green. Isolated large mound at right rear of green. Fussy contouring at right side of green. O PPO RTU N ITI E S & R E C O M M E N DATI O N S + + + + + Remove section of maintenance track between the hole and the river. Construct new tee complex further right of existing utilising area freed up by removal of access track. Construct new path to left side of tees. Plant additional tussocks in carry to strengthen theme. Remodel green complex. Remove rear mound and fussy shaping to right of green. Develop new bunker strategy and interesting green contours to reinvigorate this - the penultimate hole of the round. TH R EATS + No apparent threats. PAG E 5 1 17
