HOLE 16 Existing Par 4 349m Proposed Par 4 349m EXISTING HOLE DESCRIPTION The 16th is a mid-length par 4 that plays to the south as a dogleg to the right. The tee shot is played across a shallow valley to a ridge that runs across the hole, and the hole corridor feels quite broad, especially in comparison to the previous hole. The fairway then drops down again where the hole turns to the right. Trees along the right side also block views around the corner of the dogleg. The green is slightly elevated and is strongly bunkered down its left side with three bunkers. The lone right side bunker is set towards the right rear of the green. The front left bunker hides most of the other two left side bunkers and appears visually quite similar to the right side bunker. Access and egress to and from the left side of this green is quite constrained with three bunkers between the green edge and the adjacent path to the next tee, while more than half of the front left bunker lies underneath the branches of a spreading eucalypt tree. A hole with great potential that is not yet realised. STRENGTHS + Broad hole corridor. + Interesting terrain. + Good green setting WEAKNESSES + + + + + Vegetation along right side blocks views around the corner of the dogleg. Dead lopped-back tree unattractive in left rough. Constrained golfer traffic access to and from the left side of the green to the path to the next tee. Left front bunker sits mostly under tree boughs. Bunkering to green is visually repetitive. O PPO RTU N ITI E S & R E C O M M E N DATI O N S + + + + + + Prune limbs of small tree intruding into view of fairway. Construct new right side fairway bunker approximately 240 metres from rear tee. Fill and sand-cap low area short of green and re-set pit level higher to soften surround and relationship to green complex. Remodel greenside bunkers, reducing the number of bunkers from four to two. Remove front left bunker which sits largely under overhanging branches. Remove second left side bunker to further free up egress. Remodel rear left bunker and extend back towards rear of old second bunker. + Remove back right bunker. Construct new bunker to front right to provide protection for back right pin positions. + Regrade track along river to fall away towards river to reduce debris currently washing onto fairway. TH R EATS + No apparent threats. PAG E 4 9 16
