HOLE 08 Existing Par 5 460m Proposed Par 5 460m EXISTING HOLE DESCRIPTI ON TH R EATS The 8th hole plays to the south and the positioning of the tees gives the feeling that this hole has been stretched as far as it can to gain some extra metres. The tees are relatively close to the previous green and are separated by some screen mounding, although this is not particularly high. The tees themselves and the adjacent path are aligned curiously well out to the right of the fairway centre, and this gives a disconcerting feeling when standing on this tee. The hole corridor feels narrower than it actually is as the fairway doglegs right out of view and the inside corner of the dogleg is heavily vegetated. The fairway turns to the right and traverses some interesting terrain in the lead up to a highly bunkered approach and green complex. A pair of identically shaped fairway bunkers guard the second shot landing area, one at short left and the other at long right, while the green is set into the side of a large hill leading up to the next tee. A pair of greenside bunkers are set into the low side of the angled green at the left. The green is softly undulating and provides for some interesting putting, behind the green is an upslope leading to a timber retaining wall and garden bed below the 9th tee. At the right of the green a concrete and rubber path extends close to the putting surface but wear patterns show that the section of the path closet to the green is rarely utilized. Similarly, the path left of the green is not often used. Quite a good hole in its current form but with some weaknesses that can be improved upon. + The tees and carry area are vulnerable to stray tee and approach shots from the previous hole. STRENGTHS + Interesting terrain played over. + Well vegetated hole corridor + Attractive green site and gently contoured green. WEAKNESSES + Mounding left of tee is not very protective. + Tee and path alignment out into the right side trees. + Right side vegetation before and after the inside corner of the dogleg is quite dense and could be thinned out to afford more v iews around the corner of the dogleg. + From the centre of the fairway the last eucalypt trees on the left block out views to the left greenside bunkers. + Approach bunkers left and right have an identical visual character. + Terrain beyond the right approach bunker leading into the green is quite steep. + Path network right of the green could be simplified, some areas are considerably damaged by tree roots. O PPO RTU N ITI E S & R E C O M M E N DATI O N S + Alter mowing lines to re-align tees to direction of play. + Remove bushy Melaleuca protruding into hole corridor approximately 170m from tee on the right hand side. + Remove Paperbark tree on corner of dogleg. Construct new fairway bunker in its place at approximately 234 metres from rear tee. A sufficient number of semi-mature Eucalyptus trees line and protect the 2nd tees. + Remove end of shrub bed (associated with 2nd tee) to unclutter the edge of the fairway and open up view to trees beyond. + Remove last Eucalyptus tree on the left short of approach bunker. + Remodel the two approach bunkers to give each an individual character. + Remove short length of path to right of green. Re-shape surrounds to the right of the green. Soften slopes and lessen depth of hollow. Sand cap and returf. + Undertake root pruning and install root barrier (optional) prior to replacement of path disturbed by roots. + Naturalise carry between tee and start of fairway with occasional planting of native tussocks.
