HOLE 05 Existing Par 4 350m Proposed Par 4 350m EXISTING HOLE DESCRIPTION TH R EATS The tees for this mid length par four are to the right side of the green, with the result being that the tee shot from the rear tee plays past the green with the white tees set adjacent to the green in quite close proximity. This may bring golfers waiting to tee off here into some danger from stray tee shots into the preceding green. Women golfers waiting near their tee are also in danger from overhit shots from the 4th and also from stray shots from the rear 5th tee if playing in mixed events – th e damage to the screen from balls is testament to this. From the tees that border the billabong, the hole plays to the south through another well-treed golf corridor with the tee shot landing area on the crest of a plateau, with a nondescript bunker set left of the fairway. The fairway remains flat a good way towards the green when it begins to rise. A bunker is set into the slope short right of the green and a larger bunker is set into the bank along the left side of the green. The green is quite a good one but space exists to shift it further to the left. The rear of the green slopes up steeply towards properties at the rear, and old Cypress trees screen these properties. At the right an unsightly timber fence is exposed to view and is visually quite distracting. This hole has the bones of being a very good hole. + The proximity of the white tees so close to the right side of the 4th green may bring golfers on this tee into danger from sliced tee shots from the 4th. STRENGTHS + Interesting terrain played over. + Well vegetated hole corridor + Attractive green site. WEAKNESSES + + + + + + White tee close proximity to previous green, and general safety for golfers waiting to tee off from both white and red tees. Billabong banks are turfed and could be naturalized with tussocks. Unattractive fairway bunker at left side that does not impact on line of play. Bunker access and egress is difficult. Unsightly fence visible behind the right side of the green. Run-off from hillside at right and rear runs onto the putting surface. O PPO RTU N ITI E S & R E C O M M E N DATI O N S + Demolish existing ladies tee and relocate to the right adjacent the billabong. This location removes the ladies from balls overshooting the 4th green and allows for the removal of the unsightly trellis screen and tree. In mixed events the ladies will need to wait with the men prior to progressing to their teeing ground. The yellow tee is also to be located in this new tee ground. Necessary earthworks will be required to provide improved drainage and tee access in this area. + Remove suckers from billabong back to improve open view to this feature. + Remodel left side fairway bunker. Shift closer to line of play to improve strategic and visual impact. Ensure adequate entry and egress. + Construct new right-hand side fairway bunker approximately 190 metres from rear tee. The bunker is to be set into the natural ridge and provide greater strategic interest and visual ‘shape’ to the hole. + Prune bows from Eucalypts before new green site to ensure playability from left side of fairway. + Relocate new green approximately 10-15 metres left of existing to improve relationship to natural edge of property and distance green from residential located to the right. + Remove Cypress trees to rear and other select vegetation along paling fence. Establish new screen planting to effectively screen fencing and filter views to housing. + Naturalise carry between tee and start of fairway with occasional planting of native tussocks. PAG E 2 5 05
