HOLE 04 Existing Par 3 185m Proposed Par 3 185m EXISTING HOLE DESCRIPTION The first of the short holes at Green Acres plays to the south and is an attractive long par 3 hole with a strong treeline down the left and a long billabong along the right side. The tees themselves are quite small and restricted between the treeline and the billabong, and tend to get quite worn. Just beyond the start of the fairway is an unusually shaped mound, while large mounds at the right side short of the green have been shaped adjacent to the next tee and look quite unnatural. The green features two small bunkers at the right side and one larger one along the left, with all having difficult access/egress. The green has a slight ‘false front’ and is generally quite subtle in its character. Beyond the green is a small tree that looks out of place and adjacent to this is an unsightly shelter fence that has been constructed to give protection to lady golfers waiting to play from the next tee. This hole is a testing par three that could be made much better with tee enlargement and judicious remodeling. STRENGTHS + Good testing par 3 hole. WEAKNESSES + + + + + + + + Tees are too small for a par 3 and get overly worn as a result. Billabong banks are turfed and could be naturalized with tussocks. Limbs of trees along left side of tee gradually encroaching into hole corridor. Unnatural shaping in the fairway and right side. Right side bunkers have a very different character to left side bunker. Bunker access and egress is difficult. Unsightly tree and screen immediately behind the green. Generally bland green. O PPO RTU N ITI E S & R E C O M M E N DATI O N S + + + + + + Construct/expand new ladies tee area to right. Naturalise embankment with fescue and native tussocks. As permissible, prune branches and or limbs encroaching into hole corridor. Reshape mound in fairway and two mounds located between the 4th fairway and 5th tees. Remodel greenside bunkers to redress access/egress and bring about a consistent visual appearance. Remove tree and trellis screen immediately behind green to remove visual distraction. Note: 5th Ladies tee to be removed and relocated to margin of adjacent billabong. + Remodel green contours to provide more interest and challenge. + Naturalise carry between tee and start of fairway with occasional planting of native tussocks. TH R EATS + Green is exposed to stray tee shots from rear 5th tee, although in normal paced play golfers will have hit off from this tee before the following group has reached the 4th green. However, if there are slow play delays then there may be situations where golfers are teeing off from the 5th tee while golfers are still on this green and normal golfer etiquette should ensure some level of safety.
