DESCRIPTION
The third is a par five hole that plays parallel to the river through a tighter hole corridor than is seen at the first two holes, especially
at the left side off the tee, although it widens out beyond this initial restriction. The landing area for the tee shot is in a depressi on
defined by what is effectively a levee bank down the left side adjacent to the river. The right side is marked by a series of stately
River Red Gums, and from the landing area the hole turns slightly to the left towards the green where the fairway narrows in. The
bank at the left continues up the hole until just short of the green where it drops away, while short right of the green lies a pair of
circular bunkers which are of a distinctly different character to those seen on the first two holes. The green starts at grade with the
fairway and rises up to the rear - generally a relatively straightforward green, and one that is quite open for longer hitters to access it
in two shots.
STRENGTHS
+ Interesting terrain that drops down in the landing area.
+ Strongly vegetated hole corridor.
WEAKNESSES
+ Tees align to the left of the hole corridor, while the impost of the large trees beyond the tee at the left side tend to force tee shots
right.
+ Various non-indigenous trees along the right side appear out of character with the eucalypt nature of the landscape.
+ Bunkering at the green provides little challenge for longer hitters going for the green in two, or for average hitters third shots.
+ Bland green complex in need of renewal.
O PPO RTU N ITI E S & R E C O M M E N DATI O N S
+ Re-align tees mowing lines consistent with line of play.
+ Staged removal of non-indigenous trees along right side of fairway, however retain Ash tree adjacent 7th tees for ball protection.
+ Reshape linear edge of levee bank to be free flowing and organic in appearance. Sand cap works to provide improved growing
medium and drainage for improved turf quality along this margin.
+ Occasional native grass planting to levee bank to further contrast its linear nature.
+ Construct new green complex, with the front edge pushed back to disengage it from an awkward tie in to end of levee bank.
+ Naturalise carry between tee and start of fairway with occasional planting of native tussocks.
TH R EATS
+ No apparent threats
