HOLE 02 Existing Par 4 364m Proposed Par 4 364m EXISTING HOLE DESCRIPTION This hole plays from slightly elevated tees set to the right of the 1st green as a subtle dogleg to the right. The corridor is well vegetated and is considered sufficiently spacious, although the intrusion of bushes and small trees at the right corner of the dogleg is not desirable as they block the view around the dogleg corner. Pleasant views are obtained into the billabong at the start of the fairway, although these could be enhanced with some judicious tree removal and trimming. Beyond the corner at the right side are a series of unnatural looking mounds associated with the nearby 8th tees, whilst the outside corner of the dogleg is set with a single shallow fairway bunker that is barely visible from the tee and is set hard up against a tree trunk – this could be made into a more imposing hazard. The approach to the green is strongly defined by the tall eucalypt tree short left of the green, with an attractive backdrop of other mature eucalypts and bushes. The green itself is quite low profile when viewed from the fairway, and is protected by a pair of bunkers, one at front right and a broad one at middle left which sits rather uncomfortably close to the trunk of another large eucalypt. Quite a good hole that can be further enhanced by some judicious improvements. STRENGTHS + Attractive tee shot and hole corridor lined with mature eucalypts. + Attractive billabong with River Red Gums at left side. + Good green setting. WEAKNESSES + + + + + + Left side fairway bunkering very low profile and hard up against a tree trunk. Bushes and small trees at right corner of dogleg block views beyond. Unnatural low mounds in right rough beyond dogleg corner. Green is fairly bland. Access into right greenside bunker is difficult. Left greenside bunker is uncomfortably set next to a tree trunk, and its broadness makes golfer circulation around the left of the bunker quite awkward. + Surrounds at rear of green are rather uneven. O PPO RTU N ITI E S & R E C O M M E N DATI O N S + Remove Silky oak tree adjacent Billabong to open up view. + Remove two Acacia trees along right side of fairway adjacent drive bunker to provide more view around corner of dog-leg. Plant replacement trees further right to provide future protection to 8 tees. + Remodel fairway bunker. Move away from tree trunk by approximately 5-7 metres to impose more on the line of play. + Remodel un-natural looking mounds between 2nd fairway and 8th tees. + Construct new green complex to provide a more visual interest and challenge. Left greenside bunker to slide further to rear to free up egress. Cap surrounds with 100-150mm of sand to improve drainage, wear and turf quality. Note: This initiative is to accompany all new green and surrounds proposed work. + Naturalise carry between tee and start of fairway with occasional planting of native tussocks. TH R EATS + Tee and tee waiting area is relatively exposed to stray shots into the 1st green. PAG E 1 9 02
