PRACTICE FACILITIES The practice facilities at Green Acres are comprised of; + + + + 1st tee practice putting green in front of the Clubhouse adjacent the 1st tee. A large practice putting green behind 18th green. 6 No. practice nets in two groups of three. Practice chipping green. 1ST TEE PRACTICE PUTTING GREEN The location of this putting green is well situated adjacent the 1st tee with views to it from the bistro area. Whilst not large in area at approximately 200m2 it serves a useful purpose for a last minute stroke and speed check prior to commencing the round. Some improvement is possible with modification to its margins however space is limited and precludes more meaningful improvement. PRACTICE CHIPPING GREEN The practice chipping green is inadequate in size and opportunity for meaningful short game practice. This is due to it being situated in a restricted space which is compounded by difficult terrain. Adding to the unsatisfactory nature of this facility is an access track carrying delivery trucks and maintenance and staff vehicles to the maintenance facility which runs between the residential boundary to the east and the edge of the practice chipping green. This same track also carries golfer traffic from the Clubhouse to the practice facilities and the 10th tee and represents a potential conflict and threats to golfer safety. As such it is our strong view that this access track for vehicles be relocated. With the track removed the construction of a retaining wall along the residential boundary would allow for more usable ground in which to expand the practice green and surrounds. The current green is approximately 175m2 however it may be possible to achieve a green in the order of 600m2. Conceptually the green would have a large terrace to the north-western third of the green. This lower section of green would provide a more ‘accessible’ part of the green from chips and pitch shots played from the north back to the green. Additional terracing of this northern portion of fairway would also improve the relationship between fairway level and slope - and the green level. A new sealed access track to the course is proposed leading out towards the 10th fairway. Top: Practice nets near 10th tee. Above: Practice chipping area.
