Independent Study
Independent Study is an opportunity to earn credit for learning outside the formal class
structure. A student who is interested in knowing more about a topic not covered in the
regular curriculum may propose a research project to any department faculty member. If
a student and faculty member can agree that the topic is worth investigating, that it is not
covered (or not covered in sufficient depth) in departmental courses and they share
sufficient interest in the topic to sustain an independent study project, they may submit
an Independent Study Agreement form. Students should obtain an Independent
Study Agreement form from the Counselor.
On the Job Training (OJT)
This class complements and reinforces what students may encounter at their OJT site.
Units of instruction deal with job seeking and employability skills, consumer education
and daily living skills. The last portion of this class will focus on job applications, resumes,
cover letters, and interviewing. Guest speakers will be used to supplement classroom
instruction. Please note that having enough credits to allow a shortened school day,
attendance, attitude, work ethic, meeting application deadlines and career goals are
among the factors considered in selecting students to be involved in the OJT program.
Teacher Aide
Teacher aides will be assigned positions in the Elementary school or in the Junior/Senior
High School. Teacher aides may receive one-half credit for their work in proportion to
their time involvement. In order to receive credit, it must be agreed upon prior to the
start of the semester by the teacher, Counselor, and principal. Students will be
evaluated on their job performance and will receive a pass/fail.
Criteria:
1. Students may enroll as a teacher aide for three semesters during their four years in
high school. If they have had three semesters as a teacher aide they may enroll to take
the class without credit.
2. Students enrolled in this program should be enrolled in seven additional credit classes
for the year.
