1991
The 1991 Legislative Conference helped lay
the groundwork for a landmark year, when
legislators increased the state gasoline tax by a
nickel. A healthy portion of those revenues were
dedicated to local roads and bridges, and the gas
tax has not been adjusted since.
1994
The County Commissioners College became the Alabama
Local Government Training Institute to provide mandatory
training for newly-elected commissioners.
1995
Legislative victory: Counties became authorized to
collect local taxes on their own or contract for this
service. Early adopters saw increased revenues.
1997
The County Revenue Officers Association of
Alabama was organized.
1992
The Annual County Golf Bash began in recognition of the
Association’s efforts to improve county government in Alabama.
