B luegrass sensation and more Billy
Strings ( above ) beat out Brandi Carlile and Jason Isbell to be named Artist Of The Year at the 21st annual Americana Honors & Awards which took place in at the Ryman Auditorium September 14 .
The Awards , which featured performances by Adia Victoria , Allison Russell , Brandi Carlile , Buddy Miller , Chris Isaak , Fairfield Four , Indigo Girls , James McMurtry , Lucinda Williams , Lukas Nelson , The McCrary Sisters , Morgan Wade , Neal Francis , Phosphorescent , Sierra Ferrell and The War And Treaty , once again had Buddy Miller as musical director for the Americana All-Star Band .
Presenters included Allison Moorer , Dom Flemons , Hayes Carll , Jerry Douglas , Lucius , Lyle Lovett , The Milk Carton Kids and Molly Tuttle .
The awards also saw Allison Russell picking up the Album of the Year honour for her Outside Child , and CMP favourite Sierra Ferrell named as Emerging Act . The Lifetime Achievement Award Honors wet to Al Bell , Chris Isaak , Don Williams ( posthumously ), Fairfield Four and the Indigo Girls .
