C arly Pearce and Ashley McBryde

called their Grammy win a win for
“ real country ” as they picked up a trophy for their chart-topping duet Never Wanted To Be That Girl at the 2023 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles last month . Winning for Best Country Duo / Group Performance , “ Holy shit , we won a Grammy !” they declared in their acceptance speech . Never Wanted To Be That Girl lends a new twist to the classic cheating song and gave Ashley McBryde her first # 1 . It was written by the two singers along with Shane McAnally and rarely can a Grammy have been more deserved .
It was also a good night for Willie Nelson who , just shy of his 90th birthdays , triumphed twice , picking up Best Country Album — announced by Shania Twain who accepted it on Willie ’ s behalf in his absence — for his recent album A Beautiful Time , and Best Country Solo Performance for Live Forever from the recent tribute album Live Forever : A Tribute To Billy Joe Shaver .
