The museum in downtown Nashville dedicated to George Jones has permanently closed its doors . Posting on Instagram , the museum known as The George Jones ( opened in 2015 , two years after the passing of The Possum ) cited difficulties caused by the pandemic , the Christmas morning bombing in 2020 , workforce shortages , and supply issues . They went on to say , “ During the last several years , we have met many of you , shared stories and bonded not only over George Jones , but over country music , Nashville and the spirit of all that encompasses . We are so grateful to all of you for that !”

Later in the post stated , “ The museum and all of its contents are being handled with care . There will be more to come on where this exhibit will land next ,” hinting that a new location might be announced . More illuminating was a Facebook post by the daughter of George Jones and Tammy Wynette , Georgette Jones , saying , “ I just found out today via social media that everyone at the George Jones museum / bar has been fired and the venue is being gutted . I ’ m praying my dad ’ s belongings aren ’ t going to be scattered , sold piece by piece or thrown away . Our family has nothing to do with this and I ’ m very sad to hear this news . Apparently , no one was given more than a few days notice here at Christmas time that they were going to have no job . ‘ Things ’ have never mattered to me , but people do . I hope and pray everyone will be ok and that my dad ’ s ‘ things ’ are properly preserved somewhere instead of going to eBay or the trash .”
