Maxwell Craven delves into the modern
collectibles market with inside information on
Railway lamps. One of the great things about
items supplied for their own use by the old
railway companies was that they were keen to
mark almost all their items of hardware with
their initials or even their full name. Have you
got one lurking somewhere? It could be worth
money.
Steve Orme interviews
composer/guitarist Steve
Hackett a former member
of Genesis who appeared in
Derby in the 60s as a backing
band and blew the headline
act away. What makes him tick
now?

Brian Spencer does Oslo
on a Shoestring Even
the locals complain
about the cost of living
in Norway, but as we
discovered, it is possible
to enjoy the delights of
Oslo, Norway’s capital
without breaking the
bank.
If you drive south
along Walton Road
out of Burton,
you used to see,
on your right the
cooling towers of
the Drakelow Power
Station, which was
demolished in stages
up to 2006. You
could also catch a
glimpse of a pretty
lodge house beside a pair of imposing Baroque style gate piers.
These are all that survives of Drakelow Hall. Read Maxwell’s story
of the sad decline of this once beautiful home.
