Enhance DERWENT WINDOWS & DOORS beauty of An extraordinary historical connection in Ripley, Derbyshire. Rachel and Rob Walters, owners of Derwent Sash Windows in Ripley, Derbyshire had always known that their beautiful Victorian house was a special place, steeped in history and named ‘The Manse’ situated on Cromford Road. Little did they know that when they purchased The Old Church on Nottingham Road to house their new showroom that they would discover an extraordinary connection. Th e Manse, Ripley, Derbyshire. Names on the Plaques link to those on the Title Deeds Digging even deeper into the history surrounding the two properties it was found that the Walters house had been built in 1890 as a Manse for the Primitive Methodists of Ripley, a religious group that had been formed when they were expelled from the Wesleyan Methodists in 1810 under interesting circumstances. Th e primitive Methodists of Ripley started meeting in a room in Malt House before moving to another site on Grosvenor Road, formerly a meat and fi sh shop and now a disco bar! In the 1870’s there was a huge religious revival under the leadership of Reverend John Neale mentioned earlier and the popularity of the Primitive Methodists grew to such an extent that the small church on Grosvenor Road was no longer big enough to hold the entire congregation. Th e congregation then split up and a group of miners bought new premises on Wood Street “ I have now had all the windows in my house replaced w ith Evolution Flush windows. Th ey look great in a 1920’s house and are thermally very effi cient. All personnel involved, from the surveyor, to the offi ce staff and the fi tters were superb. Nothing was too much trouble. Th ey are not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. A pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended. Mrs Greenway - Belper Carol Slade, Sales and Operations Director for Masterframe, manufacturers of Bygone Sash Windows said “Derwent Sash Windows Ltd has been a valued partner on the Bygone Network since 2002. We are very proud to say that Rob and Rachel were so confi dent in the Bygone product that they replaced 31 original timber box sash windows in their house on Cromford Road with Bygone PVC-U sash windows. Furthermore, when the renovations were carried out to the Church in 2016, we were privileged to manufacture the magnifi cent arches that have elevated the building to its former glory. We were so impressed with how the Church has been transformed into a stunning new showroom, with the arches being the inspiration behind the new company logo.” Carol continues “Both the Manse and the Church have a fascinating history and connection and there are many parallels between our authentic products that are lovingly manufactured to embody all the attributes of original timber windows and the way in which the church has been restored. Th is is a testament to the specialist work that Derwent Sash Windows is so well known for. “ “ On recent inspection of the title deeds for their house, Rachel found that they included the names of two Reverends and Trustees of the Primitive Methodist Church, Reverends Bennett and Neale, whose names were engraved in the stone tablets around the outside of the church that was now their showroom. It became clear that their home was, in fact, the Manse for the Old Church a remarkable coincidence indeed, that both should now be owned by the Walters family. which is now the only remaining Methodist church in town and still active today. Th e remaining congregation built a new church on Nottingham Road, the present Derwent showroom, at a cost of £ 2075 which included a school room which is now the basement of the showroom. Rob and the team at Derwent Sash were a pleasure to deal with, the professionalism, quality of work and products are second to none. We are extremely pleased with the service and the windows we had installed, it’s truly transformed the appearance of our property and added that extra quality and kerb appeal that we couldn’t get from any other local window supplier.
