This just in--beloved party-thrower and billionaire Jay Gatsby is dead! He was found dead in his own, luxurious mansion in West Egg just yesterday. It appeared that he had been shot in the upper body while lounging in his backyard swimming pool.The shooter was none other than George Wilson, gas station owner in the city. After killing Mr. Gatsby, Wilson promptly shot himself, leaving the town in a wild frenzy after a sudden and confusing murder-suicide.
When Nick Carraway, friend and neighbor of Mr. Gatsby, was asked to comment, he said nothing except, “I’m inclined to reserve all judgements. Reserving judgements is a matter of infinite hope. However, I must say that I now want the world to be in uniform and at a sort of moral attention forever; I want no more riotous excursions with privileged glimpses into the human heart. Only Gatsby is exempt from this belief. He is the only one who has done no wrong."
