WHY FAIRTRADE-COTTON ?

Cotton is sometimes referred to as ‘ the white gold ’. More than 100 million households in 70 countries depend on cotton production for income . But life as a cotton farmer can be tough . Competition on the world market is fierce and the price for cotton has been in steady decline the last couple of decades . This is hitting hard on farmers in developing countries that have little or no means to compete with highly subsidized cotton industries like in the United States .
Fairtrade guarantees a minimum price for cotton which covers the cost of a sustainable cotton production . The farmers will also receive a Fairtrade Premium , which allows them to invest in community projects such as schools , roads or heath care facilities . Fairtrade is a safety net for farmers who are poor or living on small margins .
When you buy products made of Fairtrade-cotton , you support the farmers as they improve their lives and their communities .
