WHY FAIRTRADE-COTTON?

Cotton is sometimes referred to as‘ the white gold’. More than 100 million households in 70 countries depend on cotton production for income. But life as a cotton farmer can be tough. Competition on the world market is fierce and the price for cotton has been in steady decline the last couple of decades. This is hitting hard on farmers in developing countries that have little or no means to compete with highly subsidized cotton industries like in the United States.
Fairtrade guarantees a minimum price for cotton which covers the cost of a sustainable cotton production. The farmers will also receive a Fairtrade Premium, which allows them to invest in community projects such as schools, roads or heath care facilities. Fairtrade is a safety net for farmers who are poor or living on small margins.
When you buy products made of Fairtrade-cotton, you support the farmers as they improve their lives and their communities.
