“How Sweet It Is” Officer Training
With a SWEET theme, 120 youth and adults gathered in Russell for 4-H Officer Training. This effort combined the resources of Cottonwood 4-H Agents, Susan Schlichting and Michelle Beran, and Midway 4-H Agent, Marcia Gier, with several volunteers.
In addition to office-specific workshops, a goal setting session and an adult volunteer session were held. During the adult session, Susan Schlichting led participants through a series of interactive questions to identify ways to better help their youth develop leadership skills and manage 4-H meetings. Michelle Beran walked all participants through the 4-H Goal Setting sheet to answer questions and identify SMART Goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timely). FHSU Collegiate 4-H led everyone in Teambuilding activities.
Volunteers leading sessions included Kelsi Jo Crouch (President/ Vice President/Parliamentarian), Marcia Blundon (Secretary), Rhonda Haberer (Treasurer), Diane Kuhn (Reporter/Historian), and Nathan Robbins (Recreation). Kelsi assisted several volunteers to present a brief skit on the impact of ineffective meetings.
A brief survey was conducted at the end of the training for planning and presentation feedback and a more detailed reflective survey will be sent in January after officers have had an opportunity to put their skills into action.
Ambassador Training
4-H Ambassadors are energetic leaders with a focus on promoting 4-H across their county! They may work with radio or TV stations to promote events, present to and recruit other youth, and are a visible team at events such as the county fair.
Ambassadors across the Cottonwood and Midway Districts came together for a great day of training on Dec. 14. Amy Sollock, SW Area 4-H Specialist, and Mikey Hughes, 4-H alumnae, worked with youth on social media skills, understanding and marketing the 4-H brand, and were joined by Mike McKenna of KRSL Radio for some best practices for interviews and working with radio.
The group ended the day with a goal setting session with their advisers.
