Greetings from the Director:
In my 31-year Extension career I could have never predicted the way a health pandemic like COVID-19 would affect our Extension programming. K-State Research & Extension asked us to cancel any face-to-face meetings or events through July 4th, and encouraged us to turn challenges into opportunities, If you have followed our Cottonwood District social media posts I think you will find that our seven Extension Educators have risen to the challenge. From virtual Farm Show and Expo posts, to 4-H programming offered through the Clover Classroom, to on-line ServSafe food handler trainings, Extension is creating lots of opportunities for learning. I invite you to take a look at our Cottonwood Facebook page and watch one of Lauren’s videos related to a horticulture topic.
As Fair season approaches there will definitely be some changes as well. The Barton County Fair is one of the earliest fairs in the state so the decision was made to host a more virtual/on-line event this year. The Ellis County Fair is set to be more of a face-to-face event with some modifications to keep participants, volunteers and our employees safe. No matter which format is followed there will be a lot to celebrate with our young people in the Cottonwood District showing their project accomplishments.
Again, I invite you to visit our Facebook page often for up to date posts of what is going on in the Cottonwood District!
