Temperatures below 32 F can affect some chemistry negatively. As a result, it is recommended heated storage for most products, or at least storage can keep the temperature above 32 F especially large quantities. Product labels will list the minimum storage temperatures for each pesticide. Many pesticides have freezing points below 32 F. However, some will crystalize at low temps. As a result of the investment in each tote, keeping them from freezing temps. will keep them in usable condition when spring spraying activities begin.
Controlling annual weeds with fall-applied herbicides ahead of corn & sorghum
Fall herbicide applications during late October and through November can greatly assist control of difficult winter annual weeds and should be considered when performance of spring-applied preplant weed control has not been adequate.
Fall applications have another side-benefit. While it is always important to manage herbicide drift, herbicide applications made after fall frost have less potential for drift problems onto sensitive targets.
Do chemical totes need to be in heated storage over the winter?
Plastic pesticide containers accepted at Ellis Co. Noxious Weed Dept.
The Ellis Co. Noxious Weed Dept. is accepting plastic pesticide containers until November 10, 2020. To be accepted containers must be triple-rinsed clean and dry, they accept 1 gal, 2.5 gal, and 30 gal drums. If you have any questions call Michaela Dreiling 628-9445.
Fall control of bindweed, bur ragweed & musk thistle
Fall is a great time to spray these noxious weeds before a killing freeze. The plants are moving carbohydrates into the root system, which can result in better control.
