The process of fermenting foods – to preserve them and make them more digestible and more nutritious is as old as humanity. Fermented foods are a powerful aid to digestion and a protection against disease. There is an increased interest today to learn the basics of fermentation and how adding more fermented food to the diet can impact health. Join Donna Krug, Cottonwood

Are you thinking about purchasing an air fryer as your next small kitchen appliance? Or perhaps you have one but are unsure of its many uses. Join us at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th Street, for a program titled, “Healthy Air Fryer Cooking.” Jen Webster, Pawnee County Family & Consumer Science Agent, will share her tips for using an air fryer successfully. This busy mom and Extension educator is excited about the versatility of this small appliance that can cut some of the fat that is used in traditional cooking methods. The free program is set for Wednesday, December 2nd, at noon.

What is the secret to staying positive? Living a healthy lifestyle is very important but maintaining a positive attitude in today’s world is even more important. Spend your lunch hour with us as we share some ideas to keep a positive outlook on life.

November 4, 5:30 pm – “Healthy Air Fryer Cooking”

Air fryers provide a healthier alternative to conventional frying because they use very little or no oil during the cooking process. Extremely hot air continuously circulates around the food. A heating element, much like a stove top burner, is situated above the food and then a fan is used to rapidly move the air around the food. Join us to learn more about Air Fryer Cooking!

December 2, 12:10 pm – “Bonding Through Board Games”

A great way to promote family relationships is through the use of board games. The holiday season is a wonderful time for family members to gather and build shared memories through a common, enjoyable experience. Maybe you will learn about a new board game that you will want to add to your family wish list?

Measure, Pour, Let’s Explore Wednesday, November 11, 12 noon at the Great Bend Recreation Activity Center, 2715 18th Street, Great Bend, KS

Preschool age children love to “help” and are capable of following simple instructions. Their coordination is becoming more refined and they can use their hand muscles for mixing, pouring and even measuring. Berny will share a variety of recipes – some that are edible and some that are just fun to play with! These activities will help preschoolers practice their skills at home, at grandma’s house or at daycare.
