Celebrating Ellis County 4-H at the State Level
Ellis County 4-H members represented our community well at the Kansas 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes in Manhattan on August 23rd and 24th. Highlights included:
• 10th Overall Sweepstakes Team
• 9th Overall Skillathon Team
• 10th Overall Livestock Judging Team
Ellis County youth will also have a strong presence at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson, September 5–14. Exhibits ranging from livestock and welding to photography and fiber arts projects, plus more that will showcase the talents of our local 4-H members.
Along with their exhibits, Ellis County 4-H’ers Brynlee, Khloe, and Faith will join Russell from Barton County to compete in the Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) Judging Contest. The contest includes three components:
1. Judging Classes – evaluating items and making decisions based on set criteria.
2. Group Think Activity – working as a team to develop solutions to real-world challenges.
3. Hands-On Puzzle Room – collaborating to solve a series of puzzles.
In addition, Karci, Kaylee, and Keeli will serve as coaches for the Special Olympics Champion Livestock Show at the State Fair. Their leadership and encouragement will help provide a fun and memorable experience for participants in this special event.
Finally, Ellis County 4-H is well represented in the Shooting Sports State Matches:
• April 26: 3 members competed in BB Gun, Air Rifle, and Air Pistol
• September 20: 3 members will compete in Archery
• September 27: 1 member will compete in Small Bore
• October 11–12: ~30 members will attend the Shotgun
We encourage everyone to support our 4-H members in all of their state-level events; whether it’s Livestock Sweepstakes, FCS Judging, Special Olympics coaching, Shooting Sports Events, or by visiting the State Fair to see the many exhibits on display. Their hard work, dedication, and accomplishments across these competitions are something our entire community can celebrate!
