Find YOUR Spark! Is the theme of this year’s National 4-H Week, October 3 - 9.  What’s a “Spark”?  It’s that thing that excites you.  Something you want to know more about.  It’s a favorite hobby, something you really like to do.

Everyone has or can have a “Spark” or two or more.  You might have already found something you’re really good at, something you enjoy.

4-H helps youth try new things, identify new “Sparks” that may end up being a life long passion or even a career.

According to the Search Institute’s research teens who have identified a “Spark” and are working in partnership with caring adults are more likely to have higher grades, better physical health, positive friendship skills, are more likely to volunteer to help others and have a sense of purpose in their lives.  These teens are less likely to be sad or depressed and less likely to be mean to others.  Lots of good comes from helping youth develop these “sparks”.

4-H is suited for “Spark” development.  In fact, as the new 4-H year kicks off October 1, we are ready to invite all youth 5-18 and their families to come and get involved!  We have a brand new 4-H club forming on October 11.  The “Growing Leaders” 4-H Club will focus on all things outdoors.  Gardening, water conservation, nature, leadership and service are just a few of the things this new club will focus on.  To learn more about it and to sign up, give the Extension Office a call at (785) 628-9430.  Come help a young person in your life find their “Spark”!
