On May 21st and 22nd, the 4-H20 (Water) Ambassadors of the Cottonwood District were able to attend an educational trip to Southwest Kansas thanks to some generous sponsors! 7 4-H members from Barton and Ellis Counties and 3 program advisors including Ellis County 4-H Youth Development Agent, Tamara Robertson, visited multiple locations in Scott City and Garden City. Through partnerships with KCARE, City of Hays - Department of Water Resources and the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, they toured 1 location of the HRC feed yards and the water treatment plant in Scott City. Youth then traveled to Garden City to tour the Lee Richardson Zoo, see live bison at the Sandsage Bison Range, visit the Buffalo Dunes Golf Course, tour the wastewater facility and the Southwest Research- Extension Center. The Water Ambassadors were able to provide some water focused activities and program materials to some members of Finney County 4-H. Our 4-H members were able to learn about the Ogallala Aquifer, pivot irrigation and the importance of water quality, water conservation and water careers.
