Cottonwood Extension District and Rice County Extension partnered to provide ServSafe at the office in Barton County on June 15. Twelve participants had the opportunity to dive into safe food handling which was lead by Post Rock District Family and Community Wellness Agent Jamie Rathbun. ServSafe curriculum is developed by the National Restaurant Association and designed to teach safe handling practices to foodservice employees and others who handle and serve food to the public. It is provided by K-State Extension in partnership with the Kansas Restaurant and Hospitality Association.

On July 11, FCW agent, Michelle Beran worked with 22 young adults participating in the Barton Community College Upward Bound program for Etiquette Essentials. Participants enjoyed a great meal prepared by Great Western Dining in the BCC Student Union as Michelle walked through each course and provided practical information to assist in career readiness for job and scholarship interviews and business meetings. Hot topics included “What do I do if I drop my fork?”, “”Knowing how to pass things”, and “How to use my napkin properly”.
