Cottonwood Connections July 2023

July 2023

District Director Notes

As I prepare to turn my calendar to July, the first thing that I see is “Barton County Fair” and “Ellis County Fair”. Fair season in the Cottonwood District will be upon us shortly and it will be an exciting time. This is the time of the year when our 4-H youth get to highlight the hard work that they have been doing.

The Barton County Fair, “Country Pride, County Wide”, is July 5th through July 9th. The Public Fashion Revue will be held on Thursday, June 29th. The judging of 4-H exhibits and livestock go on every day of the fair. There is a Business Appreciation Breakfast that begins at 7:30 am on Thursday, July 6th. That evening’s entertainment is provided by Katy Nichole, Christian musician. Friday’s entertainment is provided by country artist, Madd Hoss Jackson. Saturday has a full slate of action all day long and wraps up with Rock and Roll Night and the group The Rock Gods. A breakfast that begins at 8:30 am on Sunday and the Celebrity Showmanship and Sale of Champions will round out this year’s fair. Complete details and schedule of the fair can be found at:  https://www.bartoncountyfair.com.

The Ellis County Fair, “Saddle Up For Fun”, is Monday, July 17th through Saturday, July 22nd. There are a couple of pre-fair events before the 17th. The Public Fashion Revue is on Thursday the 13th, the Dog Show is on Friday the 14th, the Open Class Horse Show is on Saturday the 15th and the 4-H Horse Show is on Sunday the 16th. 4-H and Open Class judging then continues through the early part of the week. Entertainment at this year’s fair includes: two nights of car races, two nights of KPRA rodeo, barrel races, truck and tractor pull and free entertainment nightly at the Midway Stage. Come out on Thursday at 5:00 pm for free root beer floats. The TMP cheerleaders will be doing face painting Tuesday through Friday from 5:00-10:00 pm. Saturday, July 22nd is highlighted with a cornhole tournament that begins at 2:00 pm on the midway. There will also be an inflatable carnival, laser tag, axe throwing, a pedal pull and many other activities for the entire family. Complete details and schedule of the fair can be found at:  https://www.ellisco.net/681/Ellis-County-Fair.

Please come out and support our local 4-H youth during these two great fairs. Come see the projects entered by the youth and the public. There will also be plenty of great food at the various vendors and 4-H food stands. Hope to see you there!!
