In November, Family & Community Wellness agent, Michelle Beran finished the first semester series with the Barton Community College TRIO program with a hands-on cooking class.

Students made beef meatballs with two different sauces while practicing kitchen and food safety, knife skills, and learning about cooking on a budget.

The students were able to sample their work at the end of class and there was not a meatball left in sight!

The first two classes in this series included financial budgeting and grocery store budgeting.

Michelle offered appointments in Great Bend, Ellinwood, Claflin, Hoisington, and Hays as outreach of this important program. Client comments included appreciation for help with things they didn’t understand and evaluating the best options, especially on restricted budgets.

During Medicare Part D open enrollment, Michelle Beran met with over 65 clients to review and change or newly enroll in a Medicare Part D Plan. By having a better understanding of current plan options and pharmacy networks, clients saved in excess of $70,000!
