February 2025
District Director Notes - Jay Harris
Punxsutawney Phil has spoken! Whether he saw his shadow or not, one thing is certain—February always keeps us busy as we navigate winter while preparing for the spring ahead. No matter what the groundhog predicts, our team is moving forward with educational programs, workshops, and resources to help our communities thrive.
The new year has brought exciting opportunities for our district. Our team has been hard at work planning programs that serve a wide range of interests—from youth development and agriculture to horticulture, health, and community vitality. February is a busy month with upcoming events, workshops, and meetings designed to engage and educate the residents of Barton and Ellis counties.
I want to take a moment to acknowledge the dedication of our staff. From working with local producers to offering youth enrichment programs and community health initiatives, our agents continue to make a difference. Their efforts in securing partnerships, developing innovative programs, and fostering relationships with stakeholders are what make the Cottonwood District strong.
Even though winter still holds its grip, many are already looking ahead to spring. Our horticulture programming will soon ramp up with gardening workshops and educational sessions on lawn care, tree health, and landscaping. Additionally, our agricultural agents are focused on supporting producers with resources related to calving, forage management, and farm business planning. Whether we have six more weeks of winter or an early spring, now is the perfect time to start planning for the growing season ahead.
As we continue through 2025, our goal remains to provide relevant, research-based information that strengthens our communities. If you haven’t already, be sure to check our website and social media pages for updates on upcoming events and resources. As always, we appreciate the support and engagement of those we serve.
Thank you for being part of the Cottonwood District. We look forward to another great month of learning and growth, no matter what the groundhog predicts!
And, if you were wondering, he did see his shadow, six more weeks of winter!
