GBReads!
4-H Agent, Michelle Beran has been involved with a program called GBReads! Every K-6 student in the Great Bend school district receives a copr of a book that is read together as classesa and families.
This year's book is "Zoey and Sassafras: Dragons and Marshmallows" by Asia Citro and is a fun read about what scientists have to do by taking the knowledge they already have and adding research and experiments to learn more. The subject matter allowed me to use 4-H curriculum on the Pet Project and Veterinary Science Projects to provide students with more information about scientists!
In addition to the 1200 grade school students, I have had the opportunity to work with the Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) program at Great Bend High School over the last few weeks. We used a Community Vitality curriculum which focused on leadership and communication skills. Many of these high school students volunteered to assist for an entire day at one of the grade schools! Having the opportunity to work with and watch both groups learn and develop is what Michelle loves about her job!
